Defoamers
Mineral oil, polysiloxane and polymer defoamers that control process foam, persistent microfoam and film surface defects across production, let-down and application stages.
Typical application systems
Chemistry directions
- Mineral oil defoamers
- Silicone/polysiloxane defoamers
- Silicone-free polymer defoamers
- Emulsion types for waterborne
How it works
A defoamer enters the foam lamella, spreads at the interface and destabilises it. The engineering problem is doing that fast enough to deaerate without becoming incompatible enough to cause craters.
What it solves
- Air entrapment during high-speed dispersion
- Microfoam that survives into the dried film
- Pinholes and craters after application
- Filling and packaging line losses from macrofoam

Water-based vs Oil-based Defoamers: Performance and Compatibility
The carrier of a defoamer decides how it arrives at the foam lamella. Comparing emulsion and water-dispersible types with oil-based mineral and silicone carriers on deaeration speed, persistence and crater risk.
How to Select a Defoamer for Waterborne Industrial Coatings
Foam generated during dispersion, let-down and application behaves differently at each stage. A practical framework for matching defoamer chemistry to where the foam actually forms, and how to stay inside the compatibility window.
